Alan Rickman is an English actor, director, and producer. He is best known for his roles in films such as Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Sense and Sensibility, Harry Potter, and Love Actually. Rickman was born in Hammersmith, London, on 21 February 1946. He attended Latymer Upper School in London and then studied graphic design at Chelsea College of Art and Design. He then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he graduated in 1972. Rickman's first major role was in the BBC television series The Barchester Chronicles in 1982.
