He is best known for his roles in films such as The Vanishing (1988), The Fourth Man (1983), and The Little Blond Death (1989). De Mey began his career as a stage actor in the late 1970s, appearing in productions of plays by Shakespeare, Molière, and others. He made his film debut in the 1981 Dutch drama The Fourth Man, directed by Paul Verhoeven. He went on to appear in several other Dutch films, including The Vanishing (1988) and The Little Blond Death (1989). In the 1990s, de Mey began to focus more on directing and writing. He wrote and directed the short film The Last Supper (1995), which won the Golden Calf for Best Short Film at the Netherlands Film Festival. He also wrote and directed the feature film The Last Supper (1998), which was nominated for the Golden Calf for Best Feature Film. De Mey has also appeared in several television series, including the Dutch series Baantjer (1995-2005) and the British series The Bill (2002-2004).
